Unlike Mary she may be totally free of infection; but if so, a few days watching television rather than riding her bike is no big deal when lives could be at stake. Like Mary, Kaci refuses to be quarantined and is defying health officials in Maine. Like Mary, she should be confined against her will until she is definitely innocuous.

Mary Mallon, “the most dangerous woman in America” was born in Ireland and later worked as a cook for wealthy families in New York. She was the first known carrier of typhoid fever in the USA, and although without any symptoms, she was still contagious and continued to spread the disease to at least 53 persons (who spread it to others), three of whom died. It is thought she infected 50 others who died but it could not be determined since she changed her name so often. She refused to stop working as a cook and was confined to a hospital where she died 20 years later.

Mary worked as a cook from 1900 to 1907 in New York City area and within two weeks of her employment, residents developed typhoid fever. Then she moved to New York City where members of the family for whom she worked developed fever and diarrhea, and the laundress died. Mallon then went to work for a lawyer; she quit after seven of the eight people in that household became ill. She took other positions in Long Island, and left a trail of infection everywhere. She always resigned when family members became ill.

She was identified as “typhoid Mary” in a 1908 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Later, in a textbook, she was given the moniker of “Typhoid Mary.”

She was approached by a typhoid researcher who asked for urine, blood, and feces samples but she refused and charged him with a large, sharp craving fork. He absconded quickly, and when he did a study of her employment it revealed that seven of the eight families she cooked for had contracted typhoid fever.

The New York City Health Department sent Dr. Josephine Baker after Mary and Baker took five cops and an ambulance. Mary lunged at her with a large fork but was finally restrained and taken into custody. She was held in isolation on a small island in New York City’s East River for three years. In 1910 she was released after promising to stop cooking and to take hygienic measures. She got work as a laundress but that paid less than cooking, consequently, she changed her name to Mary Brown and went back into the kitchen and continued to infect innocent people–people were paying her to infect them!

In 1915 she caused another outbreak while cooking for a hospital in New York City under her alias, Mary Brown. Twenty-five people were infected and two died. In March of 1915 she was arrested and returned to the island where she was confined for the rest of her life.

Mallon was the first asymptomatic typhoid carrier known to health officials and denied to her death with pneumonia at age 69 that she was a carrier. She declared that she never had typhoid fever and was never sick, and never had any symptoms. Since she was asymptomatic the city and state officials had no policy to handle such cases. Her autopsy showed evidence of live typhoid bacteria in her gallbladder.

Typhoid Mary did not have a right to privacy because she was a threat to society. Ebola, HIV, and typhoid carriers fall into the same category. When I interviewed Notre Dame law professor Dr. Charles Rice for my book, AIDS: Silent Killer!, we discussed the rights of infectious people. “This is a public health issue. Doctors are not protected by the privacy shield.” When dealing with a fundamental right, Rice said, “Restrictions must be justified by a compelling state interest and it must be the least restrictive method available.”

The state has a compelling interest in protecting the public through identifying, listing, tracing, and, if necessary, quarantining possible Ebola carriers. No one can be positive about Kaci’s health–not yet.

Kaci recently returned from working with Ebola patients in Sierra Leone and refused to be quarantined saying that it violated her civil rights. She must think her right to ride her bicycle for a few days is more important than the rights of others to stay alive! A Maine judge agreed with her and on Oct. 31 ordered that since she is being monitored by health officials she cannot be detained. The judge said that because she has no symptoms, she is not infectious! I didn’t know lawyers, even judges, had medical training. Of course, even the “medical experts” don’t know who’s on first–or second.

Kaci wrote an op-ed piece for the Dallas Morning News after returning from Africa suggesting that fellow health workers coming home from Africa might face a “most frightening quarantine.” She did not explain how quarantine could be frightening.

It is criminal to expose innocent people to a deadly virus, especially until all the facts are in regarding all possibilities of contracting it. Those who permit, preach, and prescribe the right to privacy for infectious health personnel are guilty of patient abuse, child abuse, malfeasance, dereliction of duty, and stupidity–and there’s no cure for stupidity.

The public welfare must take precedence over a right to privacy. My conclusion is that Kaci is a spoiled, self-centered schnook who is trading on her admirable 30-day service to Ebola victims for her undeserved fifteen-minutes of fame.

However, quarantine is not a game and it’s a shame for this dame to use it for fame. I pray she never gains fame as “Ebola Kaci.”

Ebola Battle Led by Larry, Curly, and Moe? https://donboys.cstnews.com/ebola-battle-led-by-larry-curly-and-moe https://donboys.cstnews.com/ebola-battle-led-by-larry-curly-and-moe#respond Thu, 30 Oct 2014 21:44:34 +0000 http://donboys.cstnews.com/?p=910 The population of Europe had outrun the food supply in the early 1300s, and in a few years, the poor were eating cats, dogs, and other animals. Some say they even ate their own children! People were dying, but rather slowly. Bubonic plague (Black Death) would prove to be more efficient and quicker than famine, much quicker.

The bubonic plague cut its way through the Far East to Italy, then to the rest of Europe. It is believed that Genoa merchants transported plague in their cargoes of spices, nutmeg, jewels, and silks. In Siena, 75% of the people were cut down like grain before the scythe, and about 75% also died at Pisa. As described in the Cronica Senese of Agnolo di Tura, “Father abandoned child, wife, husband, one brother, another….No one could be found to bury the dead for money or for friendship.”

We are observing some of the same reactions regarding Ebola as health officials keep changing the narrative. The indecision of the “experts” is fueling the plague. First it is not airborne then it is airborne according to German doctors as reported in the Oxford University Press. The CDC agreed yesterday that Ebola can be contracted by a sneeze! The incubation period is 21 days, then 31 days, and some say 40 days. It seems health officials don’t know whether they are pitching or catching.

The virus can survive “a few hours” on an object and a “few days” in body fluids although now we are told at least one Ebola strain can live 50 days especially on a glass surface. It is not easy to catch, yet health workers dress in personal protective equipment (PPE) and still get the disease. Health workers are refusing to care for the dying and some are refusing to bury the dead in Africa. Even some U.S. health workers refuse to honor quarantine and spineless officials refuse to require it.

It seems Larry, Curly, and Moe are handling the Ebola threat with understandable results: Death is the result of ineptitude, incoherence, and incertitude.

The poet Petrarch, called the “Father of Humanism,” reported about the effects of the plague on Florence: “We go out of doors, walk through street after street and find them full of dead and dying, and when we get home again we find no live thing within the house! All having perished in the brief interval of our absence.”

George Astor wrote, “Almost half of Europe died from the Black Death between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries.” The Black Death (bubonic plague) raged into Paris in June of 1348, and about the same time, it ravaged up and down the valleys of the Rhine and arrived in England, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. In 1360-61, 50% of the people in many Polish towns died! Lubeck, Germany saw 80,000 of its people swept away by the plague. In 1477-78, 30,000 died in Venice; 18,000 died in Vienna in 1542. London saw thousands die each week in 1563, 1592, and 1599. Spain was lashed by the plague in 1596-1602, when half a million people died! In 1603, when James I came to the throne, 38,000 people died in London; almost that number died in 1653.

Then the great plague lashed London again, and more than 68,600 died out of a population of 460,000. It all started slowly in London. Just before Christmas of 1664, two men died in Drury Lane, with a few additional deaths during the remainder of the winter. The next few months were months of beautiful weather in London, but not for people! As the temperature climbed, so did the death toll; however the town officials refused to admit the numerous deaths which is the charge made about Ebola. The rich and well connected began to flee the city. The College of Physicians left the city by the last of June, and the politicians and King Charles II fled in early July.

In the last week of August, over 7,500 people died, and the dead carts rolled through the streets each morning picking up those who had died during the night. The dead were taken to church cemeteries where huge holes had been dug and where the dead were thrown. Infected people threw themselves into the pit, and sought to bury themselves since death was so sure and dying was so painful. The plague spread from London to the rest of the country, and then disappeared after 1667.

By 1679, 76,000 people perished in Vienna and 83,000 in Prague during 1684. Moscow lost 57,000 people to the plague as late as 1771. In the mid-1800s, the bubonic plague raised its ugly head in China and skipped across the country. Almost 100,000 people died in Canton. It showed up in Bombay (30,000 deaths) and Calcutta in 1896 and in Japan and the Philippines the following year.

In 1899, the Black Death visited Hawaii, Central America, and South America. The next year saw it in Cape Town and San Francisco. Plague paid a visit to Egypt and Singapore in 1901. Bangkok played an unwilling host to the plague in 1904, Java in 1910, New Orleans in 1914, and Florida in 1922. About ten million people perished of bubonic plague between 1903 and 1921! Since then, it has only shown up periodically and has been contained, but the Black Death is on every continent of the earth at this very moment!

The preceding litany of deaths could be a portent of what the world faces if Ebola gets out of control or Muslim terrorists carry out their threats. No sane person thinks they are playing games. It is not demagoguery to suggest that the earth could become a mass graveyard!

If major disease, disaster, and death visit America I’m afraid we will see the same results witnessed in the past. Few seemed/seem to fear God or man. Honor was/is a forgotten concept.

And Larry, Curly, and Moe continue their silly, senseless, and stupid antics playing “doctors”!

Mankind Has Suffered More from Bugs than Battles! https://donboys.cstnews.com/mankind-has-suffered-more-from-bugs-than-battles https://donboys.cstnews.com/mankind-has-suffered-more-from-bugs-than-battles#respond Mon, 27 Oct 2014 15:04:55 +0000 http://donboys.cstnews.com/?p=908 Decaying corpses were stacked all over the burial ground and the streets were littered with the dead. When trains arrived at railroad stations, they had to be cleared of dead and dying passengers. The killer was Spanish influenza of 1918-19. In the U.S., about 500,000 people died, mostly young adults! This plague started (at least in the U.S.) in a Kansas army camp and within a week it was in every state! It then jumped the Atlantic Ocean to cut down millions. Five million people died in India! Total world deaths are estimated to have been up to 100 million people and this pandemic has been called “the greatest medical holocaust in history.”

More people died as a result of the Spanish flu than died in World War I–on both sides! During the Crimean War (1854-56), ten times more British soldiers died of dysentery than from all the Russian weapons combined! Moreover, 50 years later, during the Boer War, there were five times more deaths from disease than from enemy fire.

From the dawn of history, mankind has experienced times of sickness, sorrow, and suffering. Often, times of pestilence were mysterious, sudden, and without remedy. Lack of knowledge, superstition, and poor sanitary conditions often contributed to the progress of the pestilence. Men often felt that God was visiting them with plague to punish their evil deeds. The disease was usually dreadful, devastating, and deadly and often left as quickly and mysteriously as it appeared. Now, we face another deadly possibility: the Ebola virus (EVD). Plus, there are Islamic terrorists with the ability, equipment, funds, and commitment to wreak destruction, disease, and death on a massive scale.

Throughout history, people often reacted out of fear and ignorance, and that only compounded the problem, extending the pestilence. They ran from the towns, but found that when they arrived in a “safe haven” they were met by the same pestilence! Of course, the pestilence had been a traveling companion. Hopefully, the mistakes make in the past will not be repeated in the future. Our present threat could come from Ebola, a nuclear blast, poisoned water or food supply, or biological agents sprayed over a metropolitan area. It might simply be numerous suicide attacks in scattered malls and churches.

The further one goes back into history, the less reliable are the numbers of dead, and the less assurance we have of the pestilence that took them; however, it is a fact that mankind has suffered far more from bugs than from battles.

My use the word plague is a general term for any deadly epidemic disease since even the experts can‘t identify some of the major plagues of the past.

We know that malaria hit Italy in the first-century B.C., and that the dead were in all the houses, and the streets were crowded with funeral processions. Many who had mourned a stricken relative died themselves with such rapidity that they were burned on the same pyre as those they had mourned.

An epidemic that lashed the whole world started in Verus’ Roman army while his troops were fighting in the East in A.D. 165. According to Ammianus Marcellinus, the original infection came from a chest in a temple which Roman soldiers had looted. God warned about those who are greedy for gain in Proverbs 1:19, reminding us that it would cost the lives of the greedy souls. The results of this thievery cost the lives of millions of innocent souls. Verus’ army carried the disease homeward, scattering it everywhere, and by the time they reached Rome, the disease had spread from Persia to the shores of the Rhine, a world plague. Hans Zinsser, American physician, bacteriologist, and prolific author, quoted Orosius’ report that deaths were so many that some cities in Italy were abandoned and fell into decay.

There was so much terror of the disease that no one dared nurse the sick and dying. It even killed Marcus Aurelius, the Emperor of Rome, who was among the 2,000 per day that died in that city.

In the epidemic of Cyprian about A.D. 251, the plague skulked through Egypt, leaving the dead and dying, and then boldly attacked Rome and Greece where the daily dead rose to 5,000! It spread over the entire world, from Egypt to Scotland. It was during this plague that the custom of wearing black as an indication of mourning became common, according to Roman Catholic historian Baronius (1538-1607).

The pestilence of A.D. 302, had a companion—famine. The people resorted to eating grass, and the deaths from famine almost matched those dying from disease. Hungry dogs fought over the bodies of the human dead. Hieronymus tells us that the human race had been “all but destroyed,” and that the earth was returning to a state of desert and forests.

Headlines last week reported: “UN predicts global famine” if Ebola continues to explode. Anthony Banbury, head of the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response revealed that “Ebola got a head start on us.” He also said, “It [Ebola] is far ahead of us, it is running faster than us, and it is winning the race,” adding “We either stop Ebola now or we face an entirely unprecedented situation for which we do not have a plan.” Note, “We do not have a plan.”

So, maybe Ebola [EVD] or terrorism will do to us what Hieronymus reported about the human race in 302 A.D.–it had been “all but destroyed,” and the earth was returning to a state of desert and forests.

God help us! World health officials have not been very helpful!

History Lesson: Greek Empire Fell Because of Disease! https://donboys.cstnews.com/history-lesson-greek-empire-fell-because-of-disease https://donboys.cstnews.com/history-lesson-greek-empire-fell-because-of-disease#respond Fri, 24 Oct 2014 15:01:31 +0000 http://donboys.cstnews.com/?p=905 Civilizations have experienced more devastating blows from sickness than from swords–more heartache from bugs than from bombings.

The face of the world has been changed more through the louse, the flea, and the mosquito than by marching armies and flying missiles. When the daily count of the dead reached the breaking point (different in various societies and ages), responsible people became irresponsible, tranquil people became terrified, and the borderline paranoid became dangerous. As people fled their homes, social and political organizations disappeared, crops were left to rot in the fields, populations were displaced, civil war was fomented, and major shifts in religious thinking occurred. Some of that is taking place in African nations at this time.

After major plagues mysteriously left a nation, interest in religion decreased because of the many deaths among the clergy and because of so many unanswered prayers. Of course, unbelievers have used unanswered prayer as an excuse for unbelief since the beginning of time. J. L. Cloudsley-Thompson wrote, “It is beyond the bounds of possibility for anyone to estimate the influence of epidemic disease on religion and philosophy. Nor can we clearly assess its influence on the material course of human history.”

Many historians believe that the empire of ancient Greece fell into Roman hands because of malaria attacks, not because of marching armies. Malaria was endemic throughout the Greek world by 400 B.C. The malarial parasite (passed to man by the female mosquito) killed infants, weakened unsuspecting children, forced the vacating of the best farmlands, and helped produce Greek citizens who were listless, lazy, and licentious. As a result, the power and glory of ancient Greece became a mocking memory.

Greek historian Polybius (204-122 B.C.), called the most reliable ancient historian, reported that the whole of Greece had been visited in his time by childlessness and a general decline of the population that resulted in the emptying of the cities and the failure of the land to render its produce. He said that men refused to marry or, if they married, refused to have children. If they had children, they refused to rear them. He said that men went out of their way to be ostentatious, avaricious, and indolent.

Quite an indictment! Will Western civilization learn from the past or will we have the same experience? If Americans must live daily with the threat of terror (as do the Israelis) will that further erode our culture and destroy our homes and churches?

Some historians, in my opinion, give too much credit to the mosquito for the fall of Greece. It was a major factor, but men must always be held accountable for their actions. Today, a man gets drunk and kills a carload of people and pleads that he was not in control and should not be held responsible. Others tell us that sugar impaired their ability, and they lost control and should not be accountable for the results they produced. No doubt, there is some truth to those claims, but we must all be held accountable for our actions. The same was true in Greece. Malaria did make them listless, therefore lazy, but they chose to be licentious.

The Greeks slowly lost their brilliance which was thought to be epitome of original thought. This degeneration is obvious in their art and literature and other areas of creativity. W.H.S. Jones wrote, “Their initiative vanished; they ceased to create and began to comment. Patriotism, with rare exceptions, became an empty name, for few had the high spirit and energy to translate into action man’s duty to the state. Vacillation, indecision, fitful outbursts of unhealthy activity followed by cowardly depression, selfish cruelty and criminal weakness are characteristics of the public life of Greece from the struggle with Macedonia to the final conquest by the armies of Rome.”

Jones, De Sanctis, Celli, and others taught that disease has changed the condition of this world more than wars. Ancient Greece would not have fallen into the hands of Rome if it had not been for malaria. Are we not fools if we don‘t consider the same or similar results from possible contagious diseases and biological terrorism we face today?

We can now add AIDS, flu, and the Ebola viruses to the scourges that have smitten mankind, taking their dreary toll. As of today 36 million people have died of AIDS! The death toll from Ebola is climbing daily and will be 1.4 million by January according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)! Of course, they have been wrong so many times during these days.

Africa gave us Ebola, AIDS, and Obama, so what’s next?

If we don’t learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.

CDC Ebola Battle is Nonsense on Stilts! https://donboys.cstnews.com/cdc-ebola-battle-is-nonsense-on-stilts https://donboys.cstnews.com/cdc-ebola-battle-is-nonsense-on-stilts#respond Sat, 18 Oct 2014 13:26:50 +0000 http://donboys.cstnews.com/?p=902 Dr. Tom Frieden, Director of the CDC declared: “In my 30 years in public health, the only thing that has been like this is AIDS,” and “We have to work now so that this is not the world’s next AIDS.” That was nonsense on stilts from a health official fearful of a health tsunami that might be ready to smack the U.S. It was nonsense because the CDC fight on AIDS was a fatal fiasco from the first. And the CDC Ebola response seems to be a rerun of their AIDS effort.

AIDS and Ebola (EVD) are alike in that they are both killers but unlike in many other ways. Almost all the AIDS cases were caused by the way men lived, behaved, acted, etc. Sixty percent of HIV infections were caused by perverted sex between males. Those sexual acts are some of the most deranged, dangerous, and deadly imaginable. Another 22 percent of HIV cases were caused by illegal drug use, followed by a very small percent from blood transfusions, mother’s milk, and unknown factors. Ebola is contracted by contact with the sick, washing dead bodies, etc. It has little to do with choice of lifestyle although the virus can be passed from sperm to a woman.

If the CDC is as incompetent, insensitive, and inconsistent in dealing with EVD as with HIV then we are in big trouble. I wrote AIDS: Silent Killer in 1987 and did more than 200 talk shows trying to pressure health officials to act wisely but they did not. Thirty-six million people have died worldwide since that time.

Dr. Everett Koop was President Reagan’s Surgeon General and he was an active Christian and outspoken opponent of abortion; however, he and Reagan were totally deficient in the AIDS fight. Koop did an outstanding job in fighting tobacco and obesity and often advised, “Stop your smoking” and “Stop gaining weight,” but he refused to even whisper, “Stop your sodomy.” Remember, sodomy was the major cause of the disease! Koop and the CDC were complicit in a tragic, massive medical cover-up.

The CDC is supposed to function in the best interests of the public health but it is often an office of propaganda as they seek to protect their turf and Big Pharma. And never, never antagonize the Homosexual Lobby.

I interviewed a high Washington official (who was very close to the Oval office) for my book, AIDS: Silent Killer, who told me, “We can’t get anything from the CDC. They want to give the impression that AIDS is a general disease, but it’s basically a homosexual disease.” We discussed the need to close all homosexual bathhouses and he agreed replying that the “greatest battle is waged by members of Congress and others in various departments of government to firmly establish in American life the warped philosophy that homosexuality is just as good and normal as heterosexuality.” Obviously, the homosexual message has been successful since now the good guys are out and the bad guys are in. You are condemned if you are pro family and courageous if you are a homosexual!

While the scientists at the CDC are all highly credentialed with medical degrees and Ph.Ds. they acted like a bunch of elementary students. A UPS article revealed “…infighting so severe among CDC researchers that some were sabotaging the experiments of their rivals. There were reportedly squabbles over who would get credit for writing certain papers. Some researchers charged high-level CDC officials with suppressing research. For example one paper showing that commercially available spermicides will kill the AIDS virus within 60 seconds was blocked from publications.”

Can you imagine grown people, scientists yet, fussing over credit for a paper? Simply give credit to the person who wrote it! If there was more than one author then credit each one! No big deal. But suppressing research and blocking information the public needs is scandalous.

Dr. Gus Sermos, former Public Health Advisor and AIDS Researcher at the Centers for Disease Control, explains in his book Doctors of Deceit, that the “negligence, incompetence, arrogance and complete lack of leadership” in the AIDS epidemic by the Public Health authorities and the Centers for Disease Control have caused the American citizens to become nothing more than “unconsenting guinea pigs” in an epidemic that will kill millions more people.

Sermos was known as a “top U.S. expert in AIDS” and was an epidemiologist at the CDC having researched 850 cases of AIDS. He told me, “I worked eight years with the CDC on infectious diseases. We had guidelines we were always required to follow, but when AIDS came along, they disregarded their own guidelines! I was disillusioned.” In one of my four interviews with CDC spokesmen, Dr. Scott Holmberg, he denied the charge. I wasn’t surprised.

In my book, on scores of talk shows, and in my column in USA Today, I implored health officials to treat the AIDS plague like a health issue not as a homosexual issue. I asked that the same procedures that had permitted U.S. Health Officials to detect, diagnose, and defeat the syphilis epidemic be used in the AIDS battle. I asked for testing of all prisoners, all immigrants, all hospital patients, and all future patients so we could have an idea who was infected. That seemed basic to me.

I then demanded that all who tested positive be interviewed as to all their sexual contacts then have those contacts interviewed and follow each contact. I then suggested that any AIDS carrier who had sex with anyone be prosecuted. After all, dead is dead whether by gun or germ.

My suggestions, demands, and requests were not heeded; then after the horse was out of the barn, the kitty was out of the sack and the toothpaste out of the tube even some homosexual groups began to suggest the same protocol that I laid out in my book and on talk shows. But too late.

Dr. Sermos declared that CDC ordered AIDS researchers not to notify the contacts of AIDS patients about their exposure to HIV. That is not only insensitive and incredible but insane to not inform people that they were probably HIV infected and would die of AIDS! That’s a public health organization!

Sermos also charged that CDC officials obstructed the investigation of possible mosquito transmission in Belle Glade, Florida. I was also involved in investigating that possibility by interviewing some of the medical personnel who believed mosquito transmission possible!

I’ve been convinced with the corrupt record of the CDC that the officials don’t know whether they are pitching or catching as they refuse to prohibit flights to and from Africa. And the head of WHO reminds us that Ebola is not an African disease! Well, let’s see: all the contamination has come from African nations so that would seem to any rational person to make it an African disease. But the racists insist on making everything racist!

Jesse Jackson and a Texas legislator charged that the death of the Liberian in Dallas was caused by racism! There is a little hope for an Ebola victim but not for professional racists whose income and popularity come from making everything a racial issue.

While the band plays on, race baiters and people in power at the CDC waltz around with the professional racists and the cover-up goes on and on.

The CDC initial approach to EVD seems to be following the AIDS path that indicates ominous signs of an impending disaster. Yes, it is nonsense on stilts.

Ebola: Ancient Hebrews Had Answer to Infectious Disease! https://donboys.cstnews.com/ebola-ancient-hebrews-had-answer-to-infectious-disease https://donboys.cstnews.com/ebola-ancient-hebrews-had-answer-to-infectious-disease#respond Thu, 16 Oct 2014 23:15:22 +0000 http://donboys.cstnews.com/?p=899 Informed health officials say that Egypt was the medical center of the ancient world. The ancient historian Herodotus recorded that during the days of the Medo-Persian Empire, it was King Darius’ practice “to keep in attendance certain Egyptian doctors, who had a reputation for the highest eminence in their profession.” However, Egypt was not nearly as medically informed as ancient Israel. Frankly, I think Egypt was more proficient in building (think, pyramids) than medicine. Israel was far advanced of the other nations in health issues.

For instance, Egyptian health officials gave instructions how to draw splinters from the flesh which consisted of “worm blood, mole, and donkey dung.” However, doctors S. I. McMillen and David Stern note that dung “is loaded with tetanus spores” and “a simple splinter often resulted in a gruesome death from lockjaw.”

The Ancient Egyptian provided prescriptions for skin disease as “A hog’s tooth, cat’s dung, dog’s dung, aau-of-samu-oil, berries-of-the-xet-plant, pound and apply as poultice.” Other remedies included dried excrement of a child, hog dung, and a farmer’s urine. One recipe to prevent hair growth included lizard dung and the blood from a cow, donkey, pig, dog, and stag.

It was said that the urine of a faithful wife was effective in the treatment of sore eyes. It seems ancient Egyptians had a thing about dung and urine! Israel was not so backward.

The Encyclopedia Britannica’s conclusion regarding the Bible’s instructions on sanitary and medical practices is very revealing: “The Old Testament is a mine of information on social and personal hygiene. The Jews were indeed pioneers in matters of public health.”

The Jews’ strict regulations regarding sexual activity along with their sanitation regulations plus their treatment of infectious diseases were millennia ahead of all other nations. God gave specific instructions for Israel regarding human waste. They were to relieve themselves away from the living area and to carry a tool for covering excrement! People in third world nations still don’t have this basic knowledge!

The Encyclopedia of Medical History declares, “The idea of contagion was foreign to the classic medical tradition and found no place in the voluminous Hippocratic writings. The Old Testament, however, is a rich source for contagionist (sic) sentiment, especially in regard to leprosy and venereal disease.” Maybe, just maybe we should use the Bible to control our personal lives, not because it is ancient but because it is accurate.

When one looks at the book of Leviticus for treatment of infectious disease he does not see dirty, dangerous, and deadly remedies and ingredients prescribed by Egypt and other ancient civilizations. In fact, the Pentateuch reveals awareness of germs and disease that “modern” medicine did not grasp for 3,500 years after the books were written!

For thousands of years doctors denied that disease could be transmitted by imperceptible means but in the 1860s Louis Pasteur confirmed in his Germ Theory of Disease that most infectious diseases were caused by microorganisms originating from outside the body.

Moses gave specific instructions to prevent the spread of disease from dung and dead bodies thousands of years before modern man understood the danger. Moses instructed Jews that diseases such as leprosy were dangerous to everyone and such infected people were to “dwell alone without the camp.” Lev. 13:45 commands when an infected person came into the vicinity of others who were not infected, the infected person was to “cover his upper lip, and shall cry, ‘unclean! unclean!’” That was not unkind and saved thousands of innocent lives.

It is obvious that the covering of the upper lip was to keep the infected person from coughing, sneezing, or spiting on non-infected people. On Oct. 9, 2014, it was announced that researchers found that a patient showing no symptoms of the disease “can still transmit a virus like Ebola by air if droplets containing the virus are transmitted to another person by a sneeze or cough.” That is contrary to what major health officials have been saying!

It was 1873 that mankind finally realized that leprosy was infectious instead of hereditary but then, Moses and the Israelites knew about it 3,500 years earlier! If a Jew was suspected of being infected he was examined by a priest who confirmed whether or not he was. If so, then he was to be removed from the living area until he was healed. That meant quarantine and while it was unpleasant and uncomfortable, it was not unreasonable.

Because of Israel’s advanced knowledge they were the only culture cognizant of infectious disease with the knowledge how to deal with them. They were the only group to practice quarantine until the Black Death (bubonic plague) smacked the face of Europe in the 14th century. Millions were dying of plague until church leaders in Vienna thought about the Bible’s plan to stop the spread of infectious disease. Officials required all ships entering Vienna’s port on the Danube to be isolated 40 days to ensure that none of the sailors or passengers was infected. Other cities followed the plan and the Black Death was stopped.

U.S. and world health officials had better realize they are health officials not politicians dedicated to not making anyone angry. We must prohibit anyone to enter the U.S. who has been to any African nation unless they have been in quarantine 21 days. That also includes our southern border. People are entering our nation daily without any physical examination and no shots. Even animals have to have shots to enter and kids have to have vaccinations to go to school. You think maybe we could be a little stricter with the deadly Ebola virus? It is time to act now. If Ebola reaches a critical mass, it could become a medical tsunami that will burn itself out after killing millions of people.

Maybe Obama should sign an executive order forbidding the Ebola virus to enter the U.S.!

Ancient Israel told us how to stop Ebola: confirm, contain, and confine the disease.

Ebola: Intrusive Requirements for Everyone? https://donboys.cstnews.com/ebola-intrusive-requirements-for-everyone https://donboys.cstnews.com/ebola-intrusive-requirements-for-everyone#respond Mon, 13 Oct 2014 18:05:40 +0000 http://donboys.cstnews.com/?p=892 If the Ebola virus disease (EVD) explodes across America we can expect many oppressive but necessary laws to be passed. There will be limitations on personal liberty, but hopefully lawmakers will think these issues through, debate them, and implement only those most necessary.

Reasonable people will argue that, in times of emergency, extreme measures must be taken for everyone’s good; however, there is always a problem. When extreme measures are taken “for the present time,” some of them persist after the danger is past. There are many examples of that in our history. So we must ask questions and demand answers from the authorities.

There is no doubt that new, intrusive laws would be passed (or implemented) that would restrict our freedoms. There could be mandatory vaccination (if one is discovered) but what if you think the shots would be far worse than the risk of getting the disease? What if you refused the shots? If an Ebola outbreak happens in your city, you may be quarantined. What about your travelling job? What about seeing your children in another city? Will you obey a law that restricts public meetings such as church services, weddings, and funerals? If so, for how long?

Liberia’s president wants to confiscate private property to provide land to make public graveyards but people are resisting. She has also cremated more than a thousand Ebola victims although it is contrary to their culture and deeply held beliefs. Moreover, she has required journalists to get any Ebola-related story approved! Would Americans be compliant with such laws?

What will happen when a physician, dentist, nurse, undertaker, etc., refuses to handle an Ebola victim? Will they be prosecuted for discrimination? Many health workers will decide that they would rather be “tried by 12 than carried out by six.” There is opposition in Spain by 200 health workers and at LaGuardia Airport 200 airplane cabin cleaners walked off the job Wednesday evening. Will such protestors be prosecuted if this disease escalates?

Ebola is galloping across Africa and will probably be in every nation on the continent by the end of the year. One cause of the Ebola spread that no one has discussed is the African truck drivers who visit prostitutes along their cross national routes. Even if a man has survived EVD, he can still infect a woman for seven weeks following his recovery according to WHO! Most of our politicians and physicians (who are often politicians) are hoping, maybe even praying (!) that Ebola won’t explode here. Hoping won’t do anything to protect us from a plague and praying will only help if we follow God’s provision to combat it. Wringing of the hands won’t do much good either.

Consider that in A.D. 189, a great plague (thought to be smallpox) attacked the Roman Empire and 2,000 people died each day in Rome. Rome was in trouble at that time with internal strife, debased currency, encircling barbarians, and demoralization of the populace. Those complex problems were made infinitely worse by 2,000 deaths daily. The labor supply was dwindling, military campaigns were stopped or hindered, day-to-day business operations were paralyzed, and production of food almost ceased. The weakened Empire was grinding to a halt. I’m afraid that is the process in Africa as I write.

Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States confirmed in an interview with the BBC that his country is “close to collapse” as a result of this unprecedented Ebola outbreak. That’s the way it has always happened in the past. People panic, lose or quit their jobs, live from one day to the next, no hope for the future, no confidence in public officials, no concern for others in the same circumstances, and turn to crime to sustain themselves. Look for many African nations to collapse in a few months. The city of New Orleans had that very experience.

In 1878, a deadly plague started along the Gulf Coast of the U.S., almost wiping out some towns. It caused horror and fear wherever it hit. It slowly worked its way up the Mississippi River to New Orleans, killing the poor and prosperous, ignorant and intelligent, and city-folk and country-folk alike. Its name was whispered in awe: yellow fever.

New Orleans in 1878 was a prosperous, proud, and prissy city. Cotton was king, food was an obsession, dueling was common, and gambling was rampant. The wealthy lived in opulent, antebellum homes nestled along the Mississippi. Everyone knew that yellow fever was working its way north along the river, and everyone knew it was deadly; however, New Orleans officials and the media told everyone not to worry. Things would be all right. They wanted to believe that, but had no reason to believe it.

When the fever hit New Orleans, it was the worst plague to lash across the face of the city in its history. More than half of the inhabitants were killed and in fact, the city lost its charter and was not an official city until 14 years later. Public officials dallied, dawdled, delayed, and denied the danger thinking they were too smart, sophisticated, and special for such a thing to happen to them. It happened. Officials refused to take the warning seriously and everyone paid for it.

New Orleans may be a prototype of America when massive biological terrorism or a dangerous, deadly disease lashes the face of America from sea to shining to sea. Ebola is already here conveyed from Africa and officials are reacting in ineffective, even senseless ways. We must realize that we are not so smart, sophisticated, and special that such a thing could never happen here. Moreover, we must take immediate steps to prevent the worst case consequences.

It is only wise to plan for the worst, not the best. We should refuse to admit any tourist into the U.S. who has spent any time in any African nation unless he or she is willing to be quarantined for 21 days. Those travellers should be detained before they arrive in the U.S. All U.S. military, medical personnel, and government officials returning from Africa should be quarantined for 21 days. Frankly, all U.S. military troops should be returned immediately.

It should be assumed that the disease can be contracted through coughing and sneezing. A peer-reviewed study by German doctors published in the Oxford University Press reported Oct. 9 that they found that a patient showing no symptoms of the disease “can still transmit a virus like Ebola by air if droplets containing the virus are transmitted to another person by a sneeze or cough.” (Emphasis added.)

We must react as concerned, committed, and compassionate people who have the facts, rather than as people have historically reacted in times of distress, disease, and death.

Can the CDC Handle the Worst Possibilities of Ebola? https://donboys.cstnews.com/can-the-cdc-handle-the-worst-possibilities-of-ebola https://donboys.cstnews.com/can-the-cdc-handle-the-worst-possibilities-of-ebola#respond Fri, 26 Sep 2014 01:39:15 +0000 http://donboys.cstnews.com/?p=874 The continent of Africa is a vast area of abundant natural resources yet it remains the world’s poorest and most undeveloped, uneducated, and uncivilized continent of a billion people. I believe the reasons for Africa’s pathetic circumstances are a lack of Christian influence and a variety of other causes: corrupt governments, high levels of illiteracy, incredible instances of immorality, and recurrent tribal conflict ranging from guerrilla warfare to genocide.

While there are huge modern cities, there are thousands of villages (containing a few hundred to many thousands of people) where they still live in primitive conditions, mainly dirty drinking water and outside defecation.  From this environment have come HIV, Ebola, and other exotic diseases that health officials have a commission to abolish or control. They are failing at abolishing and controlling.

Africa is the open toilet of the world, a disease-making factory. (If you want to know, Nov. 19 is World Toilet Day.) Someplace in the world, a child dies of poor sanitation every 20 seconds. And some African diseases are being brought to America.

May I suggest that very simple additions to the African lifestyle might solve or help alleviate the matter? How about building some old-fashioned outhouses in the villages? I have been to some of those villages and never saw an outhouse–not one! How could they have gone thousands of years without thinking of a better solution to one of the most important functions of human life?

One child dies every minute from preventable diarrhea. Cholera and typhoid are normal results of bad sanitation. Each family building their own outhouse would solve much of the sanitation problem.

Furthermore, another major third world problem is contaminated drinking water; however, eight drops of unscented bleach in one gallon of clear water (16 drops for cloudy water) will kill many of the disease-causing pathogens. Such actions do not require a multi-million dollar study or a vast infusion of federal funds. But I suppose my partial solution is too simple: Dig a hole for wastes and another hole, uphill if possible, for water and if a well is not possible, then use bleach or boiling for water purification.

Concerning Ebola, the Director of the CDC, Dr. Tom Frieden testified before Congress and admitted that there is not much confidence that the CDC can “deal with things like this.” He added, “Their experience in dealing with bacterial warfare is almost zero, but that’s almost what you have here….We know almost nothing, this is a world we’ve barely scratched the surface in.” He continued. “We are probably not prepared. We have nothing that stops a virus other than quarantine and hoping it dies out.” Hoping is not a scientific policy and has not been effective in controlling epidemics!

Frieden oozes gloom and has little hope. He seems to be setting us up for another massive failure on the part of the CDC. Frieden recently had experience as Commissioner of New York City Department of Health where former Mayor Bloomberg outlawed large surgery drinks and trans fats but it was struck down by a state court. The New York Post characterized the city’s attack on trans fats and sodas as, “a nanny state on steroids.” Now, Frieden has Ebola in his sights. I hope he is more successful because Ebola is a more dangerous than large sodas.

Contagion experts tell Ebola health workers to wear protective gear in dealing with the vigorous, vicious virus. Two infected Americans were returned to Atlanta wearing total protection; however, I want to know why that is so necessary if the disease is not airborne and one must come in contact with an infected person’s body fluids. And while there is no evidence to prove airborne infections, there is no evidence to prove otherwise. Sane, sensible scientists take the worst-case scenario not the best-case. You hope (and pray!) for the best but plan for the worst.

Planning for the worst would demand that infected people not be brought back to America for treatment, even highly dedicated and compassionate people like the infected missionaries. At first blush it may seem calloused to leave infected Americans in Africa but good, safe medical procedures would dictate safety over sentimentalism. Of course, the infected medical personnel should get the best care available and the CDC and others could see that it becomes a reality.

A major German virologist Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit caused concern, consternation, and contempt when he suggested that the battle against Ebola in Sierra Leone and Liberia was lost and that the virus would eventually kill 5 million people!

It is a fact that an unusually large proportion of health care workers have been infected. Were they so careless as to make contact with body fluids of Ebola patients or were they infected by breathing the virus?

Why not assume airborne possibilities until proved otherwise? It is a fact that bubonic plague (98% of world’s modern cases have been in Africa) is caused by bites from infected fleas carried by rats. During the Middle Ages when infection reached the lungs, it became even more deadly pneumonic plague since it was then airborne. Plague could then be contracted by coughing and sneezing.

Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet is a past director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons and is very concerned about the infectious possibilities. She revealed a 2012 Canadian study in which healthy monkeys and infected monkeys were kept side by side in cages but had no physical contact. The healthy monkeys became infected with Ebola without any physical contact! So, can we and should we trust the CDC for the answers?

Michael T. Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, notes in a New York Times op-ed article that, “there has been more human-to-human transmission in the past four months than most likely occurred in the last 500 to 1,000 years.” He suggested the horrifying possibility that Ebola could mutate to become transmissible through the air. He added that “virologists are loath to discuss openly but are definitely considering [airborne transmission] in private.”

Obama has sent 3,000 military personnel to Africa. Will they enforce the quarantine in Sierra Leone where one million households are required to stay indoors? Will the U.S. troops be authorized to protect themselves if people refuse to obey and panic? Will infected soldiers be returned to America or treated in Africa? What about the soldiers who will have sex with local prostitutes and come home within the 21-day incubation period?

On Sept. 16 the news reported that the U.S. State Department has purchased 160,000 hazmat suits for Ebola protection. We sure don’t need that many for health works so why are so many needed?

Again, hope and pray for the best and make plans for the worst. I’m afraid the worst may be staring us in the face. Can we trust the CDC to deal with the worst?

What other vicious, virulent viruses are percolating in Africa as I write?

Ebola: Can the CDC be Trusted? https://donboys.cstnews.com/ebola-can-the-cdc-be-trusted https://donboys.cstnews.com/ebola-can-the-cdc-be-trusted#respond Thu, 18 Sep 2014 23:42:16 +0000 http://donboys.cstnews.com/?p=869 A recent CNN poll reveals that only about 12% of Americans think the government can be trusted most of the time and about 75% trust the government some of the time. Evidently our government is the most untrustworthy, unresponsive, and unreliable in history. And most government is sure unnecessary!

Every federal agency is not corrupt, incompetent, or scandal ridden–only most of them. Everyone knows about the IRS, the State Department, the Veterans Administration, the FBI, the White House, ad infinidem. The CDC has a better reputation but it is not without warts, scars, blemishes, etc., and needs scrutiny and overhaul.

My experience with the CDC goes back to research for my book, AIDS: Silent Killer! when I had four interviews with CDC spokesmen. That period was not their most stellar performance especially for a conservative administration that I supported. In fact, the handling of the HIV-AIDS plague was a major failure of the CDC and the Reagan Administration in the person of Dr. Koop, the Surgeon General.

Koop and other health officials were prolific in denouncing the tobacco industry and obesity but they sadly failed with the AIDS plague. Koop and others were quick to yell, “Stop smoking” and “Stop gaining weight” but they refused to even whisper, “Stop your sodomy.” Koop was a committed Christian who had taken principled positions but failed miserably in the war on AIDS.

Another major CDC failure was their refusal to demand testing and tracing of HIV carriers, a time-honored and proven procedure in dealing with and beating the syphilis epidemic–until its resurgence with HIV. After it was too late, many of my opponents on talk shows agreed that I was correct in demanding that AIDS carriers be treated the same as syphilis carriers. But the horse was out of the barn; the kitty was out of the sack; and the toothpaste was out of the tube. It was too late.

Wonder why HIV infected homosexuals were not treated the same as people with syphilis? Everyone admitted that AIDS came to America through the homosexual community and 87% of HIV infected people were homosexuals and IV drug users. However, government officials tiptoed through the tulips so they would not offend homosexuals. Even today 78% of new HIV infections are homosexuals.

The reason for the different treatment is simple: syphilis carriers were not organized and the tobacco industry was easy to hate since no one could defend putting fire to your mouth and sucking it into your lungs. Cancer, you know. Also the obesity crowd didn’t have a lobby to attack those who criticized fatties. But to attack sodomy, that’s so, so, well, so biblical! And scary. Think of Sodom and Gomorrah!

That was a failure of Reagan, Koop, and others when they chose to do wrong because it was practical, popular, and political: give an open hand (full of cash) to the homosexual movement and a fist in the gut to Christians and decent people.

The CDC has also shown itself many times to be incompetent. In highly publicized incidents the CDC made major mistakes with the deadly anthrax and flu viruses. In an internal CDC review, the people commissioned to protect us admitted they shipped infectious agents to other labs–five times!

In yet another incident, the smallpox pathogen was supposed to have been sent to a CDC lab back in the 1950s yet remained unsecured at a facility for decades! Another incredible fiasco happened when CDC scientists stored the deadly anthrax virus in plastic bags! Say what? Highly qualified scientists placed a deadly pathogen in plastic bags! I should think they could have used mayonnaise jars.

Now enters the Ebola virus from West Africa although the head of WHO told us not to call it an “African virus.” Is that political correctness because the 2500 deaths have all been in Africa? Just for the record, the HIV virus also originated in Africa.

Wonder why such deadly viruses came from Africa and in the last 50 years! It may be because of two very simple and easy to solve problems: their water they drink and outdoor defecation!
