For a few years, I have tried to say or do something each day for someone with no possibility of benefit to me. That usually happens in restaurants, motels, airports, and other places of business. Famous Baptist John Bunyan said, “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” That is the essence that I have tried to practice but without the eloquence of Bunyan.

Most of what we do each day is predetermined to benefit ourselves in some way. I will sell some books, appear on a talk show, book a speaking engagement, or make an investment decision. Of course, each contact I make will be reciprocal since the people with whom I interact will get something they want from me.

Mutual reciprocity is a way of life and it is not evil or even selfish. Even among family members there is normally a reciprocal understanding: children obey parents and experience more freedom or money; they do well in school and good things follow; a man is especially kind and romantic to his wife and there is often a quo that follows the quid. It is even biblical to live that way, but John Bunyan suggested that there is normal everyday living and then there is superior living. Moreover, the inference is that those who try to live a superior or abundant life will not be a loser but a winner by not seeking any personal advantage.

What a change in America if more of us practiced that living maxim every day, not just during this time of year.

Recently, I put this into practice in my doctor’s office waiting at the lab for a test. A crowd was already ahead of me. One was a young man maybe twenty years old who was mentally and physically handicapped, accompanied by a social worker. Those waiting for lab work had not recognized Christopher’s presence–maybe because it was awkward to do so. He was so pathetic and observers no doubt experienced some undeserved guilt for being healthy. And there was hopelessness knowing we were helpless. He was simply not there. It was so much easier that way.

As I sat beside him, he said, “My name’s Christopher Edwards and I can spell my name. C-h-r-i-s-t-o-p-h-e-r.”

“Wow,” I said. “I’m not sure I could spell that correctly, Christopher. That’s much more difficult than John, Bill, or Don. My name is Don Boys—D-o-n. But that’s much easier to spell than Christopher. You are to be commended for your accomplishment.”

By now, people sitting around us had accepted both Christopher and me. Some of the awkwardness was gone. Some were even smiling.

Again he said, “My name is Christopher Edwards and I can spell it. C-h-r-i-s-t-o-p-h-e-r.”

“That is sure a worthy accomplishment, Christopher. I sure like that checkered shirt you are wearing. Is green your favorite color?”

“Yes, I like green. My name is Christopher. C-h-r-i-s-t-o-p-h-e-r.”

There was silence then I heard my name, “Don Boys.”

I walked into the lab for them to take my blood, or some of it, and I thought of my strong, bright, handsome, articulate son saying, “My name is Michael Boys and I can spell my name. M-i-c-h-a-e-l. I started to cry as I signed my name. As the lady took my blood, she looked at me for the first time and seeing my watery eyes, asked if she had hurt me.

“No, you did a very good job. Thanks for your concern.”

Walking out of the office, I realized that I had taken life, health, family, friends, and the goodness of God for granted. Through no talent, knowledge, or sacrifice of mine, I have an incredible family all healthy (as far as we know), bright, talented, educated, and almost all in the service of others.

Jesus said, “I am come that ye might have life, and you might have it more abundantly.” Everyone wants a life, a good life, but we often miss out on the abundant life—reaching out to others.

Christ spoke about this in His parable of the Good Samaritan. The Samaritans were a despised group of half-breeds who hated the Jews and were hated by them. It has been asserted that Samaritans had desecrated the Jewish Temple during Passover with human bones.

But this Samaritan did not respond to Jewish hatred and did not fit the vile stereotype. While traveling the seventeen-mile road from Jerusalem to Jericho he saw a wounded Jew beside the road. The Samaritan bandaged his wounds, put him on his beast, and took him to an inn where he could receive additional help. The innkeeper was shocked to find a Samaritan helping a hated Jew and going further than humanity would require. He paid his motel and food bill and promised to pay more if necessary. No, something very unusual was going on. The innkeeper observed an unlikely person exhibiting principle and acting nobly even at a personal cost.

Two religious leaders, a Priest and Levite, had passed by the injured man; after all, they were too busy on an important mission to take time to do good. They were probably en route to do lectures at “The Jericho Symposium on Personal and Corporate Relief” and “Personal Kindness, a Major Religious Commitment.” They passed by on the other side fearing that they might be attacked or might be contaminated by a corpse. Christ’s Jewish listeners were to identify with the wounded man realizing the help received from a hated Samaritan is grace from an unexpected source. It also shows the folly, foolishness, and falsity of hating anyone, especially group hate.

The Priest and Levite who were supposed to be servants of others, basically asked, “How will this affect me if I try to help?” Will the reciprocity be good or bad? They were badly flawed individuals.

Actually, the Samaritan is not to be commended for helping the wounded man; after all, humanity requires that of everyone; however, the Samaritan went beyond taking the man to safety and succor but to surviving. He went much further than living. He paid for the lodging and care and promised the innkeeper to repay him if the man’s care was more costly. None of that was expected.

But Christ said, “Go and do likewise.” We are to lift up the fallen, encourage the depressed, bind the wounds, strengthen the weak, and do so without realizing personal benefit.

Wimpy modern “snowflakes” should stop whining and make a contribution like get a job, visit a sick person, take dinner to a widow down the street, cut a neighbor’s grass, tutor a struggling student, visit the city mission and hug a drunk or druggie and say, “I love you and Christ loves you.”

It doesn’t cost you to be kind. It pays here and in eternity. But we are all so busy about good, important, and necessary things we don’t go the second mile and often not even the first mile. It reminds me of a real-life psychology experiment reported in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, when seminary students in a rush to teach on this very parable, failed to stop to help a man slumped over in an alley between two buildings! Some of the seminarians even stepped over the man in a rush to speak on the subject—the Good Samaritan!

I drove away from the medical office and as I turned left (something I seldom do) I thought of my healthy, bright son, daughters, wife, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Fighting tears, I said, “My name is Don Boys—D-o-n B-o-y-s and I’m very thankful I can spell my name.”

I want to be thankful every day of the year.

Furthermore, Europe has been pursuing the persecution of thought crimes for many years.

Recently, a man in England was sentenced to prison for 20 months for “publishing threatening written material…against Muslims.” Furthermore, any German who incites “racial hatred” even if there is no violence, can go to jail for five years! Has WW II been nullified? German jackboots are fashionable again and are stamping hard on the neck of free speechers.

All sensible, sane, and scared people are shocked about crime and want it punished and if possible, see the perpetrator redeemed, rehabilitated, and returned to society. But we are witnessing something I never expected to see: punishment for displeasing, dissenting, even disgusting speech! I thought Liberals believed in freedom–even freedom to be disgustingly abhorrent.

Hatred of persons is always a sin, and no Christian should be guilty of such a sin; however, we must never permit the government, courts, media, etc., to define “hate” or to criminalize it. I have been called a hater many times by homosexuals (because I teach that their lifestyle is a deadly sin) and by anti-death penalty people (who think it is all right to butcher babies in the womb but not execute killers) and by reverse discriminators who think minorities deserve special treatment (while I believe all people should be treated like people–made in the image of God). I’ve lost track of the Muslims who want to take me out.

Question for the haters on the left: is it possible to be critical of abortion, homosexuality, reverse discrimination, etc. without being a hater or bigot? I have often asked that question but never received an answer.

We are seeing crimes punished more severely if they are determined to be “hate” crimes; however, aren’t all crimes hate crimes? If they are not, what are they? Surely not “love” crimes. So people are being punished more severely because of what they thought and said! Speaking of the slippery slope!

Most common people want crime to be punished to the extent of the law taking into account any extenuating circumstances. For instance, a molester should go to jail if he fondles a woman in an elevator. If he is beaten by her husband, the husband should be fined or get probation, but not jail. Maybe a $10 fine or 45 minutes of community service.

A granddad that beats a pervert for trying to seduce his grandson in a restroom should be reminded that the law should take care of the offending pervert, but granddad should not go to jail. There are circumstances that require leniency. I wouldn’t have a parade for grandpa but maybe an honorable mention at the next city council meeting and make him “Granddad of the Year” but no punishment.

Yes, punish the criminal but don’t try to punish his thoughts; after all, who can really know what is in a person’s mind? Sure, if a villain yells epithets at his victim he reveals something of his mind, but what of those who have hatred in their hearts but never reveal it? No, let’s punish the person for his or her crime, not thoughts, speeches, and motives.

While I’m here, I must point out that the jerks in the media and government often refuse to call it a hate crime when a Muslim kills a few people shouting praises to Allah as he departs this life for parts unknown. Well, I know where he’s going and it ain’t Paradise and he won’t be spending any time with virgins on soft, green cushions.

Canada is a nation that has traveled this road where it is illegal to criticize homosexuals, transgenders, Muslims, and others in public. When I cross the border, I could be arrested or at least refused entrance because of some of my books dealing with homosexuality, Islam, etc.

Moreover, a comedian in Canada was fined $42,000 for telling a joke about a disabled child! All right, it was crass and cruel, but not criminal.

Recently Canada even passed a law making it a crime to use the wrong pronouns when speaking of people! You could be fined, jailed, and forced to endure an anti-bias training if you refuse to swallow the progressive gender nonsense.

Last week a Canadian landlord was fined $12,000 for not removing his shoes when he entered his rental apartment of a Muslim couple who owed him rent! He showed hate and was offensive by not removing his shoes!

Our friends to the North are making fools of themselves and European politicians stumble all over each other to see who can be more “progressive.”

Boris Le Lay is a French dissident and blogger who has been sentenced to two years in prison for being critical of Third World immigration into France! He also bad-mouthed his Black Muslim judge! Evidently, Le Lay may be the boldest, bravest blogger in the blogosphere but not the brainiest.

France’s Prime Minister Manuel Vals listed four limits to free speech. “There is a fundamental difference between the freedom to be impertinent and anti-Semitism, racism, glorification of terrorist acts, and Holocaust denial, all of which are crimes that justice should punish with the most severity.” Really, the death penalty? Moreover, who decides what qualifies for any punishment? After all, heroes on the left like Mandela and Arafat criticized Whites and Jews and did terrorist acts, yet they each received the Nobel Prize! Don’t the same rules apply to leftists, socialists, and Communists that apply to normal people?

Did you know that it is illegal in Germany to deny the holocaust? If you don’t believe what officials want you to believe, they will imprison you! Of course, Hitler killed Jews but is it a crime to not believe that? Did you know that you only have to suggest that six million Jews were not killed by Hitler, and you will go to jail? If you quote Jewish experts who agree that the six million figure was inflated, you can go to jail! In fact, well-known historians have been imprisoned for years for that “crime.” That is where we are headed in this country.

Twelve nations punish people who question Hitler’s slaughter of Jews: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, and Switzerland—have criminalized Holocaust denial as punishable with imprisonment! Holocaust denial may be inaccurate and insane, but should it be illegal?

It is incredible that Christians, no, just sane people, in Canada and Germany would permit speech to be criminalized. Many of them don’t even know it is going on. “But Hitler was a monster.” Of course he was, but if the six million number is inaccurate, do you want to perpetuate that error? Would Hitler be any less a monster if he killed “only” three million Jews?

It would also be interesting to know why almost all the people who call Hitler a monster, don’t feel the same way about Marx, Lenin, and Stalin! Stalin killed far more people than Hitler, and Stalin killed his own people!

But the Gestapo spirit still lives and rules in Germany but modernized since they have criminalized the internet. The President of the Federal Criminal Police said, “Our free society must not allow a climate of fear, threat, criminal violence and violence either on the street or on the internet.” Therefore, social media users face up to five years in prison for “inciting racial hatred,” even if no physical violence is committed. Ah yes, such laws would make Goebbels, Goring, and Eichmann stand up and cheer!

These laws are supposed to punish discrimination but anyone who reads English can see that those laws are themselves discriminatory! Whatever happened to the noble principle of freedom of thought and expression? Can’t civilized people discuss anything without bellicosity? Hey, we question religion, existence of God, age of the earth. wars, motives, vaccinations, so why not question and debate any issue? The truth has nothing to fear from doubt, discussion, and debate.

Regarding motives, it didn’t help “inferior” victims to know that Hitler wanted a “pure” race and that Stalin wanted to kill a few million only as a political decision. Nothing personal; the victims only lived in the wrong place or were of the “wrong” race. But they were all very much dead.

Teaching Bible truths is not hate, and I will never permit anyone to tell me what to preach or write. There are not enough federal agents with all their guns, badges, warrants, etc., to influence my ministry. Period!

Let me make it very clear: I don’t hate anyone. In fact, I’m a lover. I try to get along with everyone. While I don’t like liberals, I do love them. After all, Christ died for them also. And a few of them may be in Heaven!

Many U.S. authorities may be liberals and globalists, but they aren’t idiots. Well, all of them aren’t. They know there are millions of us who will not accept “hate crime” legislation, but they will get our children and grandchildren! They are working on it today!

Your children are being brainwashed through public education, music, television, and movies. They are being taught that they should never criticize anyone or anything–well, except those odd Christians. They should never make a judgment that any value is better than another. Voodoo worship in Haiti is just as acceptable as the worship of a holy, loving, sovereign God! They must not “demean” others by suggesting that their lifestyle is less honorable than another’s.

Unless God sends a sweeping revival and parents take control of their children’s total education, the next generation is gone. Even now, younger people nod their heads and say, “Well, after all, the Bible does say, ‘Judge not.’” And that’s about the extent of their Bible knowledge, and it’s twisted knowledge.

Federal hate crime laws are in the works and you will be pommeled by prosecutors if leftist Republicans and Democrats have their way. Our critics on the left are preaching tolerance as they prepare shackles and prisons for those who disagree with them! We Christians may go to prison for our convictions but we will never build prisons for those who disagree with us and criticize us.

Hypocrites on the left have no shame.

But then I have noted that that is the weapon used by zealots in many of the social debates: transgenders; same-sex “marriage”; affirmative action; the EU debate; abortion, etc. Since they can’t answer us, they make accusations: hate, bigotry, xenophobia, homophobia, etc. Anyone with an IQ equivalent to his hat size knows what they are doing.

It is only sane for a nation to know what is happening in that nation. What is happening is our nation is being changed every day. Some think that is good, but I don’t.

It is a fact that massive immigration will put people, usually low income people, out of work. For every 100 jobs taken by an immigrant, 60 Americans lose their jobs. That cannot be defended.

It is a fact that immigrants, as a whole, cost us far more than they produce. About half of the illegals work underground and pay only sales tax. You are paying for all their welfare, for their use of the streets, fire and police protection, education, healthcare, etc. Wait until they get legal status and they go on Social Security. And watch what happens at the polls when they vote for the politicians who promise them freebies.

It is a fact that our culture is being changed and those on the looney left are pleased but I am not. I think we have a good diverse population with the right amount of Muslims, Hindus, Jews, Blacks, Eskimos, hillbillies, and Liberals. Well, we could have fewer Liberals, the fewer the better.

It is a fact that immigrants are getting better wages and improving their lives but can America be the Social Benefactor of the World as well as the Policeman of the World? Why shouldn’t third world nations clean up their act by eliminating the massive bribery, violence, injustice, inefficiency, etc.?

It is a fact that Muslims have no experience in democracy or republican form of government. They possess a seventh century desert mentality. Muslims already here have admitted that they want sharia, not freedom. A majority (51 percent) agreed that “Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to shariah.” Say what! Even more troubling is the fact that nearly a quarter of the Muslims polled believed that, “It is legitimate to use violence to punish those who give offense to Islam by, for example, portraying the prophet Mohammed.” Nearly one-fifth of Muslim respondents said that the use of violence in the United States is justified in order to make sharia the law of the land in this country while 38 percent of Muslim-Americans say Islamic State (ISIS) beliefs are Islamic or correct!

Better read that again! Peaceful religion hijacked by extremists? Let me be clear: our problem is not with Muslims but with Islam. Many Muslims have come to America and have adjusted, often kicking and screaming, to our culture. They are embarrassed by their compatriots who are backward, brutal, and bloody but the “good guys” keep quiet because they know the “peaceful” members at the local mosque would be pleased to cut their throats for acquiescing to American culture.

For an American to vote for unlimited, uncontrolled, and unvetted Muslim immigration is like a chicken voting for Col. Sanders.

The fuse is burning. The explosion may happen any day, even today!

It is a misnomer to characterize same-sex hookups as a marriage. The Bible, the history of civilization, and common sense militate against homosexual “marriages.” They are seldom long-lasting and almost never exclusive. Note that marriage is also known as “wedlock,” or a pledging or commitment. Not much commitment in the homosexual movement.

She started with “Dear Christians” and I would like to know her definition of Christian to see if it comports with the true definition. In her first four lines, she made three serious errors. She begins her tirade by saying, “It is not holy to hate.” She did what most proponents, preachers, and purveyors of permissiveness do. They make a proclamation, without producing proof: that it is hateful to disparage, and denigrate, and disagree with perversion–and make no mistake–for two people of the same sex to be sexually involved is perversion if words still mean what they have always meant.

If same-sex “marriages” should now be acceptable, then it would mean everyone for thousands of years who believed that marriage was only between a man and woman were haters, bigots, etc. That is incredibly arrogant–and wrong.

She stated that it is not holy to hate; however, believing what the Bible teaches and what society has believed for thousands of years is only reasonable and safer. It is incumbent upon the pro-perversion crowd to defend their dangerous, disgusting, and deadly assertions. Need I remind Rhonda that God destroyed Sodom for the disgusting sin that was named after them? Moreover, the Bible documents that God hates evil and we are to hate evil and love the good (Amos 5:15). Then in Proverbs 6:16 we are told that God hates six things. Then in Proverbs 8:13 God hates a froward mouth, but I doubt Rhonda knows the meaning of “froward.” Note that it is not sinners, but sin that is to be hated.

Rhonda’s next sentence (and mistake) was, “It is not divine to discriminate.” Of course, everyone discriminates every day and we would be fools not to. I choose to drive a Lincoln rather than a GM automobile. I always choose fish over beef and choose to vote for conservatives rather than Progressives (translate: Democrats, RINOs, Socialists, Marxists, pseudo-intellectuals, and any expander of government).

Of course, Rhonda was referring to those Neanderthals (all thinking people) who “discriminate” against homosexuals by refusing to admit it is acceptable–even desirous–for two men or two women to slip between the sheets. Question for Rhonda and all leftists: If same-sex marriage can be defended, why not marriage between two men, a goat, a horse, and a rocking chair?

Many Liberals often support perversion “because Christ never condemned it.” Neither did He condemn cannibalism, illegal drugs, and peeping Toms but they are all sinful and illegal. Christ spoke about marriage “in the beginning” between a man and a woman (Matt. 19:4-6). I’ll take His word before I will take Rhonda’s word. Furthermore, Bible critics and uneducated people don’t understand that the Bible is God’s Word, and using a correct hermeneutic, it doesn’t matter whether or not Christ condemned something. If it is taught as sin in any Bible passage, it is wrong.

To keep same-sex marriage from becoming acceptable is Scriptural and common sense, something most purveyors of permissiveness do not possess. God created Eve for Adam, not Oscar. If it had been Oscar, I’d not be here.

Rhonda Swan, the very broad-minded Cox columnist, accuses Christians of using the Bible to make homosexuals “second-class citizens.” But she doesn’t understand that when people choose a life of crime, or participate in a vile subculture, they make themselves second-class citizens.

Continuing in her plummet to the bottom, Rhonda writes, “The Bible legitimized the enslavement of black Americans and the subjugation of women.” No, the Bible does not legitimize slavery or the mistreatment of women. It reports on slavery and provides definite guidelines on how to treat any slaves the Jews might take in battle or those who sell themselves into slavery for a period of time. Evidently Rhonda is like many of the New Atheists who are so hostile to the Bible that they shoot off their mouths (or crank up their computers) without knowing what they are writing about.

Bible critics are too uninformed to know that God forbids the kidnapping of people for the purpose of slavery. God clearly told the Jews in Ex 21:16, “And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.” Throughout the Middle East, wars were almost constant, so of course slaves were taken. I suppose my critics would have preferred they be killed!

As to the subjugation of women, all historians know that the Jews were far more advanced and compassionate toward women than any other civilization. Spend a little time in the famous Babylonian Hammurabi Code (about 1780 B.C.) and that fact will be obvious.

Let me help the New Atheists, Bible critics, and general Bible haters not make public fools of themselves: the Bible records slavery, concubines, multiple wives, incest, adultery, and child sacrifice but never endorses such wickedness. Now, with that information, maybe Bible haters will not be so obviously uninformed, uneducated, and unsophisticated as they have appeared for centuries. Wonder if I will receive many thanks for the information?

It is sadly true that many people twist the Bible like a pretzel to justify their own sinful actions. What must be observed is that the same-sex crowd is doing that very same thing to justify their perversion!

And now a Cox columnist defends that perversion!
