Am I an Extremist?
[easy-social-share buttons="facebook, twitter, print" counters=1 style="button" point_type="simple"]Each Wednesday I publish one of my old columns that I hope will be instructive, informative, inspiring and maybe infuriating. The following column was first published in 2010.
According to the moguls of the media (the News Twisters), I would appear to be an extremist although I always thought I was mainline. (As mainline as an active Christian can be.) After reading the musings from the various politicians, I may be one of those dreaded extremists.
I believe strongly (all extremists believe strongly in their positions) that government, out of control, is a wild beast. Does that make me dangerous? Didn’t all our founding fathers believe government can be a wild beast? Did they not insist on the Bill of Rights because they knew that government (made up of depraved creatures) could not be trusted? Is it unreasonable to believe that all politicians and bureaucrats should be bound by the chains of the Constitution?
I believe strongly that all local, state and federal officials are my employees, and since they work for me, I will never be fearful of them nor be intimidated by them. After all, it is a master-servant relationship, and I am the master. I buy the clothes on their backs, the food in their stomachs, and pay their house payments. (Well, that is not always true since lobbyists fill their pockets with unreported cash.) So, I suppose I am an extremist when I tell every judge, prosecutor, bureaucrat, politician, policeman, FBI agent, BATF agent, and IRS agent that they work for me and I expect, no, I demand accountability. And maybe some respect.
I suppose I am an extremist because I believe that the welfare window should be closed, and all welfare should be at the township level. That would mean all payments would stop to all recipients from all levels of government except townships.
I am sure many would agree that I am extreme when I would stop all foreign aid to all countries with an occasional exception for our own national interests. That would include Israel. After all, they should be standing on their own feet after more than sixty years of US welfare. The real extremists on the left will probably even charge me with anti-Semitism even though my best Friend is a Jew and I have been to Israel thirteen times. Furthermore, I have eaten and had fellowship in Jewish and Muslim homes mainly in Jerusalem. Israel, like all nations, must be held accountable.
Surely I’m an extremist because I believe the U.S. should leave the U.N.— with checkbook in hand. Maybe the freeloaders could set up shop in some glorious “independent” African nation where air conditioning, elevators, electricity, and phones work about half the time!
I believe that homosexuality is not only an abomination to God but abhorrent to decent society and to think or advocate a lesbian on the U.S. Supreme Court is tantamount to setting up residence in Sodom. Yes, I guess I am an extremist but then almost the whole world was until recent years! What changed? Maybe a very successful, massive con job in the media and perverted education in public schools resulting in a population who won’t think for themselves. And oh, yes, a passel of perverted preachers who have turned their backs on Bible teaching and rejected thousands of years of Jewish law, New Testament admonitions, decency, and morality.
Since I believe that the dollar should be backed by gold, I suppose that makes me an extremist. Of course, the people in Switzerland must also be extremists since their franc was backed by gold until 2000. They operate “as if” they had a gold standard, so the franc is basically backed by gold while every dollar in your pocket (and bank) is backed by hot air. Yes, I must be an extremist.
To hear the fanatics, fools and flakes talk, I must be an extremist because I believe every home should have a gun, and the occupants should have the ability and willingness to use it to protect the family. Of course, I’m in good company since every early American home had a gun. My critics would say that statement is true but early Americans had to be concerned about Native Americans (before they became serfs on the reservation). Today we only have to be concerned about thieves, drug abusers, rapists, home intruders, etc.
I suppose I’m an extremist because I believe that Americans have a right to privacy, and because of that we don’t have to permit agencies of government know all about our affairs.
Government has a legitimate function: to protect the innocent and to punish the guilty. Government is not our master. It is our servant. Like fire, it is a necessary tool; but like fire, out of control, it is highly destructive.
All government officials are not crooks, bums, and latent totalitarians. Some are and I insist that they be removed from the payroll. After all, they work for me and if there is any justice and common sense in America, after the next election, many of them will be looking for work elsewhere.
I’m praying for that, so surely that makes me an extremist.

Fact, Fraud or Faith?
by Don Boys, Ph.D.
Only an uninformed fanatic says that evolution or creation can be proved scientifically. Christians believe in creationism because we believe in the veracity of the Bible but we also have scientific evidence to support our position. In every debate I’ve had with evolutionary scientists, the arrogant, asinine accusation is made, “Well, evolution is scientific while creationism is religion.” Evolution is about as scientific as a voodoo rooster plucking ceremony in Haiti. Almost.
