Is Transgender Therapy Medical Quackery!

To preempt the quick response from the LGBTQ crowd and others, I am not referring to people who are born with biological abnormality such as hermaphrodites who are born with malformed, sexually ambiguous genitalia, or both male and female genitalia. Such people, currently known as intersex individuals, have always existed and they were regarded by the Athenians and the Romans as monsters, and thrown into the sea at Athens and into the Tiber River at Rome. Such people deserve our compassion and understanding.

Transgender is an umbrella term for persons whose gender identity, gender expression, or behavior does not conform to that typically associated with the sex indicated on their birth certificate.

We have seen in recent years an avalanche of gender confusion even to the extent of pumping sex- changing hormones into children and chopping off good working body parts because a male thinks he has a female inside him. Or vice versa. A young boy dressing as a girl or a girl wanting to play with trucks or toy guns is not indicative of gender confusion.

Vanderbilt University and London’s Portman Clinic tracked children with transgender feelings but who had no medical or surgical treatment and they discovered that 70% to 80% spontaneously lost those feelings! So it would appear that to inject such children with hormones or chop off their body parts is a combination of child abuse, medical malfeasance, and criminal behavior. The left likes to assume women have control over their own bodies up to abortion at birth—and yet they seek to impose their will on a minor child without knowing the potential outcome. That’s madness. Or quackery. Or mad quackery.

We have seen this movie before. Now, it features transgenders–people who identify as the opposite gender. The older version tried to convince thinking people that homosexuality, i.e. perversion, is normalcy! Then came same-sex “marriage.” On the progressive’s to-do list is incest, pedophilia, and polygamy.

There was elation in academia, the entertainment industry, and the LGBTQ crowd when a headline blared, “Scientists uncover 20 genes linked to being transgender-–supporting claims the condition has a physical basis.” But, alas, the joy was premature. It was similar to the claims over the years that a “gay” gene had been discovered only to be proved premature. It seems many scientists find what they are looking for and if they don’t find it, they call a news conference and make authoritative claims anyway with such hesitation words as “may,” “we think,” “it seems,” etc.

But alas, it was not to be. No “gay” gene has been found. It was always a fake or at least a farce, and sometime a fraud. However, the LGBTQ crowd did an incredible sales job on normal people and shamed them into accepting a lie—that abnormal sex is acceptable, maybe even preferable!

But today the issue is transgenders but I’m not buying a ticket to that monster movie.

Crosstalk radio reported on Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet, a medical doctor and chief medical officer of Med Expert Chile, an international medical consulting company based in Santiago, Chile. She is also past director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) and has an active U.S. medical practice in Tucson, Arizona, and Dallas, Texas. Dr. Vliet reported that she treated a man who had undergone reassignment surgery to transform him into a female yet he still had a prostate gland and was in fact still a male. He could be called a goat, horse, female, or whatever but he was still a “he.” Surgery didn’t change that, neither can public opinion, a legislative body, or medical society.

Sex-reassigned persons also had an increased risk for suicide attempts according to a Swedish study by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden (considered Sweden’s best university) titled, “Long-Term Follow-Up of Transsexual Persons Undergoing Sex Reassignment Surgery: Cohort Study in Sweden.” This famous medical institute conducted the largest study of transgender patients in the world–324 patients who had transgender surgery over 30 years. What they found was that later in life there was a 20-fold greater risk of suicide for those who had reassignment surgery compared with those who did not. The study concluded, “Persons with transsexualism, after sex reassignment, have considerably higher risks for mortality, suicidal behaviour, and psychiatric morbidity than the general population.” The obvious response is, “Physician, do no harm.”

NBC News reported on a study of 5,000 people who identify as transgender. Men receiving hormone therapy trying to become women were 80 to 90 percent more likely to have a stroke, blood clots, or heart attack. Women who received hormone treatment trying to become men were not at higher risk. NBC quoted Dr. Richard Greene, who treats many transgender patients, as saying, “But my concern is that doctors who are inclined to deny hormone therapy will use this study as a reason to do so.” Oh, really! Only 80 to 90 percent more likely to have major health problems as a result of attacking nature! Maybe sane people will say, “I have male plumbing, so maybe I should accept the fact of maleness and get on with my life.”

Paul McHugh, M.D. is a practicing Catholic and according to a 2002 New York Times article, he is a Democrat who “describes himself as religiously orthodox, politically liberal and culturally conservative–a believer in marriage and the Marines, a supporter of institutions and family values.” From 1975 to 2001, he was psychiatrist-in-chief at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and became University Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. McHugh admitted that Johns Hopkins was the first U.S. medical institution to enter “sex-reassignment surgery” in the 1960s but after a study in the 70s looking at those who had the surgery and those who did not, the institution ended such surgery in 1979 because it didn’t work!

McHugh said that most of those who had surgery were “satisfied” with the results but did not adjust any better than those without surgery. So, the hospital decided to cease sex reassignment surgery. Of course, the surgery never should have started since it has less credibility in my opinion than the once popular, now discredited, prefrontal lobotomy.

McHugh now vigorously opposes sex reassignment surgery for transgender people explaining that most of the people who had undergone this type of surgery “had much the same problems with relationships, work, and emotions as before. The hope that they would emerge now from their emotional difficulties to flourish psychologically had not been fulfilled.” He has said that medical treatment for transgender youth is “like performing liposuction on an anorexic child,” and described post-operative transgender women as “caricatures of women” because the surgery failed to change many of their male traits. He co-authored a criticism of medical treatment for transgender youth published by the American College of Pediatricians.

McHugh wrote in a Wall Street Journal article, “Yet policy makers and the media are doing no favors either to the public or the transgendered by treating their confusions as a right in need of defending rather than as a mental disorder that deserves understanding, treatment and prevention.” He argues that sex misalignment “is simply mistaken—it does not correspond with physical reality” and it can lead to grim psychological outcomes.” He suggests that transgenderism is similar to anorexia and bulimia—the obvious reality is well, obvious. One can see that the person is not overweight and the other one is not dangerously thin. The problem is in the mind. Another example would be a beautiful woman who thinks she is “ugly.” She has problems but the problem is with her mind.

McHugh closed his article saying sex change “is biologically impossible. People who undergo sex-reassignment surgery do not change from men to women or vice versa. Rather, they become feminized men or masculinized women.”

McHugh said that these people need to have their minds fixed, not their genitalia.

We are asked, “What about the dude who feels that he has a woman inside his male body?” He is confused because gender is a matter of biology, not feelings and to attempt to alter it is medical malpractice.

And to realize that taxpayers are funding such quackery in the military and through our healthcare system is outrageous.

If Americans who carved the greatest nation on earth out of a wilderness roll over and play dead on the transgender issue, the nation is gone.

EVOLUTION

Fact, Fraud or Faith?

by Don Boys, Ph.D.

EVOLUTION

Only an uninformed fanatic says that evolution or creation can be proved scientifically. Christians believe in creationism because we believe in the veracity of the Bible but we also have scientific evidence to support our position. In every debate I’ve had with evolutionary scientists, the arrogant, asinine accusation is made, “Well, evolution is scientific while creationism is religion.” Evolution is about as scientific as a voodoo rooster plucking ceremony in Haiti. Almost.
